MinebeaMitsumi Plans Up to $700 Million Cambodia Expansion, Focusing on Green Energy for Next Growth Phase

PHNOM PENH, July 29, 2026 (KPT) — Japanese precision manufacturer MinebeaMitsumi plans to invest an additional $600 million to $700 million in Cambodia over the next decade, building on $1.9 billion invested over 15 years as green energy emerges as a key driver of its next phase of expansion, officials said Wednesday. The planned investment will support the continued development of MinebeaMitsumi’s second major operation in Pursat province, where more than 400 workers are already employed. Mines and Energy Minister Keo Rottanak welcomed the company’s confidence in Cambodia during talks with CEO Yoshihisa Kainuma and senior management, pledging government support for the expansion. “You have two investment projects, one successful in Phnom Penh and the second in Pursat province,” Rottanak said. “Pursat, being the younger one, is growing fast. We started more than a year ago, now we have more than 400 employed and you are looking at expanding.” He highlighted green energy as a foundation for both existing and future investment. Kainuma said MinebeaMitsumi was pleased with the progress of its Pursat operation and confirmed commitment to further growth. “We are now committed to growing our Pursat operations in the near future as well,” he said, adding the company welcomes young Cambodians to join its workforce. MinebeaMitsumi entered Cambodia in 2010 and began production in 2011 at the Phnom Penh Special Economic Zone, manufacturing precision components including ball bearings and motors. Its operations have since created nearly 10,000 jobs while contributing to technology transfer and workforce skills development. The Pursat investment marks the company’s second major manufacturing footprint in Cambodia and is being developed with renewable energy at the center of operations, supporting ambitions for carbon‑neutral production. The planned $600–700 million expansion would continue the second phase of the Pursat project, further boosting capacity and employment. The expansion comes as Cambodia seeks to attract more high‑tech and environmentally sustainable manufacturing investment to diversify beyond traditional labor‑intensive industries and strengthen its role in regional supply chains. Kainuma also met Prime Minister Hun Manet, Senate President Hun Sen and Deputy Prime Minister Sun Chanthol this week to discuss progress and future plans.
