Motorcycle riding not yet permitted in Dala and Kwangchanngone

Col. Win Tint, the Minister for Security and Border Affairs of the Yangon Region Government, stated that motorcycle riding is not yet permitted in Dala and Kwangchanngone townships, which are part of the Twante District, due to security reasons. This statement was made during the question and answer session when Daw Sandar Win, the second representative of Kwangchanngone Township and a regional representative, and U Than U, the second representative of Dala Township and a regional representative, respectively asked questions regarding the permission of legal motorcycle riding in their townships on the 12th day of the third regular session of the third Yangon Region Hluttaw, held on August 31. It was stated that because regional orders have been issued in Dala and Kwangchanngone townships, allowing legal motorcycle riding again could create security vulnerabilities in those townships. Therefore, based on the feedback from the relevant regional security organizations, motorcycle riding cannot be permitted at this time. U Htay Aung, the Speaker of the Yangon Region Hluttaw, also urged the regional representatives to report the current security and law enforcement situation to the public through them. Col. Win Tint also stated that according to the situation from 2021 to the present, motorcycle riding has been banned in townships within the Thanlyin District and Twante District, but in Kwangchanngone and Dala townships, both licensed and unlicensed motorcycles have been observed being ridden as needed in townships, wards, and villages. He added that under the current circumstances, motorcycle riding has been temporarily suspended, and during the period of temporary suspension, it has been observed that people are easily and quickly traveling using mini-ou-wes (a type of three-wheeled vehicle) in Dala and Kwangchanngone townships. It is known that in July 2026, 301 vehicles and 21 motorcycles were taken action against for traffic violations in Dala Township, and 51 vehicles and 38 motorcycles were taken action against for traffic violations in Kwangchanngone Township.
