Cambodia Strengthens Civil Society Partnership for Digital Society Building and Combating Fake News

A forum in Kampong Thom province emphasized the government's view of CSOs as vital partners in national development, pledging support for digital literacy and vocational training to boost youth employment.
The Cambodian government is strengthening its partnership with civil society organizations (CSOs) to build a digital society and combat misinformation, particularly in Kampong Thom province. A forum held on September 14th focused on "Strengthening the Capacity of Civil Society Organizations in the Digital Age." The event, presided over by Mr. Pai Sambour, Secretary-General of the Council of Ministers and Chairman of the CSO Platform (V.S.S.), and attended by provincial authorities and numerous CSOs, highlighted the government's commitment to these goals. Mr. Pai Sambour praised the close cooperation between local authorities and CSOs in Kampong Thom for their contributions to socio-economic development. He emphasized the government's recognition of CSOs as indispensable partners in national development and encouraged them to actively participate in building a digital society and preventing the spread of fake news. Mr. Pai Sambour also urged CSOs to promote youth enrollment in vocational training programs at the Kampong Thom Provincial Polytechnic Institute, aiming to enhance employment opportunities and improve living standards. Mr. Ung Vutthy, Deputy Governor of Kampong Thom Province, commended the forum as a crucial platform for dialogue and exchange of views, contributing to the promotion of CSO freedoms and rights, as well as the rule of law and democracy in Cambodia. He encouraged CSOs to continue their strong partnership with the government in social welfare, local development, and improving citizen well-being. The forum also featured a presentation on "Understanding Digital Literacy and Cybersecurity for Civil Society Organizations" by Mr. Leng Bunny from the Cambodia Academy of Digital Technology. This initiative by V.S.S. aims to promote digital transformation and awareness of Cambodia's Digital Economic and Social Policy (2021-2035).
