Cambodia Boosts International Tourism Appeal with Wat Phnom Fair Ahead of Global Summit

The 'Wat Phnom Fair' was organized in Cambodia's capital, Phnom Penh, to welcome international tourists. This event is held against the backdrop of Cambodia being selected as the host country for the 2026 Global Tourism Summit, 'GX Summit,' with peace and political stability in Cambodia highlighted as key factors for its selection. The selection of Cambodia as the host for the 2026 GX Summit is seen as a significant opportunity for the country's tourism industry. This summit will bring together global tourism operators and will serve as an excellent platform to promote Cambodia's tourism resources to the world. On the evening of September 23rd, Phnom Penh Governor Khuong Sreng and Minister of Tourism Hout Hak presided over the opening ceremony of the 'Wat Phnom Fair' held at the historical site of Wat Phnom. The event saw active participation from the GX Summit delegation, national and international distinguished guests, and a large number of citizens, marking a successful commencement. This fair, organized in collaboration between the Ministry of Tourism and the travel company G Adventures, provided approximately 700 domestic and international participants with an opportunity to experience Cambodia's rich culture, civilization, and traditions. A variety of cultural experiences were offered, including traditional games, classical art performances, and Khmer cuisine tasting. Governor Khuong Sreng reflected on the history of Phnom Penh, stating that after the hardships of the Pol Pot regime, the country has achieved remarkable development under the leadership of Prime Minister Hun Sen (then) through the 'Win-Win' policy. He noted that present-day Cambodia, with its ensured peace and security, is attracting a large number of tourists. Minister Hout Hak expressed his gratitude and praise to Mr. Bruce Poon Tip, founder of G Adventures, and his colleagues for choosing Cambodia as the venue for the 2026 GX Summit. The Minister emphasized that Cambodia, with its strong foundation of peace, political stability, and public order, is a safe and welcoming tourist destination. He added that beyond Angkor Wat and the temples of Siem Reap, Cambodia can offer 'beyond temple' experiences, including the warmth and sincerity of its people, its rich and delicious cuisine, and its long-standing arts, culture, and traditions, all of which constitute Cambodian 'Authenticity.'
