Children in Vietnam's Mountainous Region Celebrate Mid-Autumn Festival Amidst Difficult Circumstances

In Phan Son commune, a mountainous area in Lam Dong province, southern Vietnam, over 2,000 children facing difficult circumstances celebrated a warm Mid-Autumn Festival with the support of the local community. This was part of the 'Phan Son 2026 Mid-Autumn Festival' program, jointly organized by the local administration and the 'Club for the Community'. At the event, children enjoyed various performances, including lion dances, magic shows, singing, and dancing. They also participated in traditional games such as ball tossing, ring toss, pottery painting, and drawing, with sweets and school supplies awarded as prizes. Food stalls offering a rich variety of dishes, popular among children, and a corner for selecting clothes free of charge were also set up. The program also included the donation of five water purifiers, 20 sets of student desks and chairs, 50 scholarships, and school supplies. Furthermore, 1,750 gift packages containing essential goods were directly distributed to families in need. Nguyen Thuy Phu, Vice Chairman of the People's Committee of Phan Son commune, stated, "This has truly been a meaningful and warm Mid-Autumn Festival for the residents and children in this mountainous region." This initiative exemplifies Vietnam's efforts to improve social welfare under its one-party system. Support for rural and disadvantaged areas is seen as part of the effort to broadly distribute the benefits of economic growth. The collaboration with non-governmental organizations also reflects a move to encourage cooperation among diverse actors for social problem-solving.
