NA Adjusts Legislative Programme for 2026

Vietnam's National Assembly (NA) has announced adjustments to its legislative program for 2026, reflecting the country's evolving development needs and international commitments. The adjusted program includes a draft law on preventing the proliferation of weapons of mass destruction (WMDs). This law, comprising four chapters and 37 articles, sets out principles, measures, policies, and responsibilities for state agencies, organizations, and individuals in combating WMD proliferation. It will apply to Vietnamese entities and individuals, as well as foreign entities and individuals operating or residing in Vietnam. Tougher measures to combat copyright infringement, especially in the digital space, are also a core proposal. This amendment to the Law on Publication underscores the growing importance of intellectual property protection in the digital era. NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man acknowledged the tight timetable but stressed that meeting deadlines must not come at the expense of legislative quality. This highlights the commitment to ensuring the quality of legislation that impacts citizens' lives and economic activities, even within the streamlined legislative process of Vietnam's one-party system. The legislative adjustments signify Vietnam's intent to deepen international cooperation and promote socio-economic development through robust legal frameworks.
