Cambodia Hosts Knowledge Sharing on World Bank-Funded Project Management
Cambodia's Undersecretary of State for Water Resources and Meteorology, H.E. Prof. Dr. Aun Chantha, participated in a World Bank-organized knowledge-sharing event on managing its funded projects. Key insights included strengthening stakeholder cooperation in the initial phase and balancing procurement, finance, and environmental/social safeguards for efficiency.
H.E. Prof. Dr. Aun Chantha, Undersecretary of State of the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology, participated as an honorary guest in a knowledge-sharing discussion on the management of projects funded by the World Bank (WB), held at the Hyatt Regency Hotel in Phnom Penh. The discussion, organized by the World Bank, aimed to create a platform for exchanging and sharing best practices and lessons learned from past project management and implementation among government representatives, development partners, and project implementation units. H.E. Prof. Dr. Aun Chantha shared two key points of experience crucial for effectively managing and implementing projects. Firstly, he emphasized the importance of enhancing cooperation among all relevant stakeholders, facilitating coordination between institutions, and establishing robust systems and work procedures from the initial phase of project implementation. Secondly, he highlighted the need to simultaneously manage procurement, finance, and environmental and social safeguards, thereby setting priorities and balancing workloads to strengthen the capacity and efficiency of project implementation teams. This knowledge-sharing initiative is expected to contribute to improving the quality of project implementation in Cambodia in collaboration with international development partners. For Cambodia, which receives support from the World Bank in areas such as infrastructure development and water resource management, accumulating and sharing such know-how holds significant importance in maximizing the sustainability and effectiveness of its projects.
