3 Convicted in Degamo Massacre Case for Firearms, Explosives Possession

Three men linked to the March 2023 Pamplona massacre, which claimed the lives of former Negros Oriental Governor Roel Degamo and nine others, have been convicted of illegal possession of firearms and explosives, Negros Oriental 3rd District Rep. Janice Degamo announced Thursday evening, Sept. 3. In a statement posted on her official social media account, the lawmaker described the conviction as a significant step in the investigation into the bloody incident. She noted, however, that several suspects, including those believed to be the masterminds, remain at large, underscoring the need for further investigation and apprehension to achieve full justice. The massacre has raised concerns about political violence and the state of security in parts of the Philippines, particularly in the provinces. The widow of the former governor has been actively calling for the swift arrest of all those involved in the crime.
