Cambodia-China Business Forum: Chinese Investors Inquire About Beef Export Procedures

During a Cambodia-China business cooperation forum, a Chinese entrepreneur posed a question to Cambodian officials regarding the procedures for exporting beef, specifically to China. In response, expert officials from the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries and the Ministry of Commerce explained the process for exporting beef abroad, particularly to China. Hok Kimthoun, Director of the Department of Planning and Statistics at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, emphasized that beef exports must be conducted based on protocols or Memoranda of Understanding (MOUs) between the exporting and importing countries. The Cambodian side is required to act and prepare documents according to the requirements of the importing country. This includes obtaining Phytosanitary Certificates (SPS Certificates) to ensure the beef is safe and free from infectious diseases. Meanwhile, Bun Channhan from the Ministry of Commerce highlighted other necessary documents and permits for beef exports, such as Certificates of Origin (C/O), to be issued by the Ministry of Commerce as a member of ASEAN or RCEP, and export permits if additional requirements are stipulated by the importing country, like China. The expert officials advised investors and exporters to thoroughly research and inquire about the laws and requirements of the respective companies or importing countries beforehand. Furthermore, officials from the Ministry of Agriculture recommended that investors directly contact the General Directorate of Animal Health and Production for facilitation of the beef export procedures abroad.
