Cambodia Inspects Former Online Scam Center in Kandal Province, Cites Disconnection of Utilities
Authorities in Cambodia's Kandal Province inspected a former online scam center on September 22, 2026. The provincial administration confirmed that electricity, internet, and water supplies to the site have been cut off and the facility is under strict surveillance to prevent further criminal activity. International media were present during the inspection.
On the morning of September 22, 2026, Kandal Province authorities, led by Acting Governor H.E. Hak Sokmakhara, along with armed forces and relevant technical departments, conducted an inspection of a former online scam center within the province. The inspection took place at the site formerly occupied by "Chin Gzy Huy Property Management Co., Ltd." located in Prek Sueng Village, Samphou Poun Commune, Samphou Poun City, Kandal Province. The visit was guided by H.E. Pang Naraen, Vice Chairman of the Permanent Secretariat of the Inter-Ministerial Committee for Combating Online Scams (ICOC). Also in attendance were Deputy Prosecutors from the Phnom Penh Municipal Court and Kandal Provincial Court, H.E. Tep Asnarith, Undersecretary of State and Spokesperson for the Ministry of Information, as well as 75 national and international journalists from 42 media outlets (23 international). The participation of journalists was facilitated by the Ministry of Information. Currently, the Kandal Provincial Unified Command has taken control of the location and deployed security forces for constant monitoring. To prevent any recurrence of online scam activities, the facility's electricity, internet, and clean water systems have been disconnected.
