Myanmar National Human Rights Commission resolved 295 complaints from January to June

The Myanmar National Human Rights Commission announced on July 14 that it investigated 295 complaints, including media reports, from January to June 2026, by holding 21 investigation team meetings in accordance with Article 7 of the Commission's Law and Procedures. In this process, 64 complaints were recommended and urged to relevant government departments and organizations for investigation, and 33 complaints were responded to the complainants. Additionally, 196 complaints were systematically recorded and closed based on the consent of the parties concerned, as they were cases pending before a court, cases under appeal or revision of a court's judgment, cases finally decided by a court, or complaints that did not meet the requirements of the complaint, or complaints that had already been processed, in accordance with Article 37 of the Commission's Law. The Myanmar National Human Rights Commission conducted on-site inspections to check whether prisoners, detainees, or those under protective custody were being kept in accordance with humanitarian principles, domestic laws, and international provisions related to human rights, as per Article 43 of the Commission's Law. During these inspections from January to June 2026, the commission visited and inspected 2 central prisons, 1 detention center, 4 prison camps, 7 police station lock-ups, 2 court lock-ups, 3 youth training schools, and 3 elderly care homes, and sent recommendations related to the inspections to the relevant ministries. Furthermore, the announcement stated that during the inspections of prisons, prison camps, and lock-ups, a total of 98 inmates and detainees who wished to meet and report freely were met individually, and their reports were inquired about and recorded.
