EGAT Partners with USTDA for SMR Power Plant Feasibility Study

The Electricity Generating Authority of Thailand (EGAT) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the U.S. Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) to study the feasibility of Small Modular Reactor (SMR) power plants. This partnership is significant for exploring the potential introduction of next-generation nuclear technology into Thailand's energy mix. SMRs are said to have advantages such as shorter construction times and greater siting flexibility compared to conventional nuclear power plants. Through this study, EGAT will evaluate the economic viability, safety, and environmental impact of SMR technology, and consider the future role of nuclear power in Thailand.
