Flooding Disrupts Traffic on Route 344 in Chonburi

CHONBURI, Thailand – Floodwater covered parts of Route 344 between Chonburi and Klaeng on September 24, causing long traffic queues in both directions and prompting a warning for drivers of smaller vehicles. At around 4 p.m., runoff flooded the road surface near kilometer marker 35, leaving water across the carriageway and traffic moving slowly in both directions. Small cars and other vehicles were still able to pass through the affected section, but the combination of standing water and heavy traffic caused significant delays. Drivers using Route 344 were advised to reduce speed, leave extra distance from vehicles ahead and take particular care on the slippery, water-covered road. Motorists were also urged to monitor changing flood and traffic conditions before and during their journey, particularly if further heavy rain affects the area. This incident highlights the recurring challenges faced in Thailand's flood-prone regions during the rainy season, underscoring the need for robust infrastructure and traffic management strategies.
