Chinese Ambassador Praises Lancang-Mekong Youth 'Peace Boat' Project

Chinese Ambassador Wang Wentian stated on August 5, 2026, at the launch ceremony of the Lancang-Mekong 'Peace Boat' project in Phnom Penh, that the project provides a beneficial platform and valuable opportunities for dialogue and exchange among the youth of six countries. The Ambassador noted that under the leadership of Chinese President Xi Jinping and other leaders of the Lancang-Mekong cooperation countries, comprehensive progress has been made in building a shared future community, clearly defining the common goal of constructing a Lancang-Mekong community with a shared future. He added that this year marks the tenth anniversary of the first Lancang-Mekong Cooperation Leaders' Meeting, giving the 'Peace Boat' project special significance as cooperation enters a new starting point. Ambassador Wang, on behalf of the Chinese Embassy in Cambodia, expressed deep gratitude to all Cambodian ministries, especially the Asian Vision Institute, for their meticulous organization and extended a warm welcome to the young friends participating in the project. He emphasized that 'Lancang-Mekong countries share the same river and are bound by a common destiny.' The 'Peace Boat' project is part of the Lancang-Mekong Cooperation (LMC) framework, involving China, Myanmar, Laos, Thailand, Cambodia, and Vietnam. The LMC was initiated by China in 2016 to strengthen regional cooperation with Mekong River basin countries, focusing on areas such as infrastructure development, economic and trade cooperation, water resource management, and cultural exchange. This 'Peace Boat' initiative aims to deepen mutual understanding among the younger generation and build a foundation for future cooperative relationships.
