Lien Khuong International Airport Welcomes First International Flight Post-Reopening

Lien Khuong International Airport in the Central Highlands province of Lam Dong has resumed international flight operations following renovation and expansion work that began in March. The reopening is expected to contribute to increased tourism and invigorate the local economy, aligning with Vietnam's regional development and economic growth strategies under its one-party system. In the initial phase post-reopening, the airport anticipates operating approximately 36-40 flights daily, an increase from pre-closure levels. Daily passenger throughput is projected to reach around 6,800, nearly 1,000 more than before the closure. For the final four months of 2026, passenger traffic is forecast to hit approximately 816,000. This rise in passenger numbers reflects Vietnam's policy to expand its tourism industry and the growing international interest in the Central Highlands region. The Vietnamese government prioritizes infrastructure investment to sustain and accelerate economic growth, with the renovation of Lien Khuong International Airport being part of this initiative. In its relations with China, Vietnam aims for economic independence and increased regional influence, making the expansion of international air routes a crucial element supporting this strategy. Enhanced airport capacity is also expected to improve logistical efficiency, thereby boosting the competitiveness of Vietnam's manufacturing and export sectors. This airport reopening marks a significant step in maximizing the development potential of Lam Dong province, which has become Vietnam's largest province by area following recent mergers.
