Kampong Thom Military Security Meeting Held to Review July Results and Set Future Directions
A military and security meeting was held in Kampong Thom province, Cambodia, to review July's performance and set future operational directions. Key agenda items included responses to border issues with Thailand, public welfare support, disaster relief, and the transition to bank transfers for soldier salaries.
The Headquarters of the Fourth Military Region in Kampong Thom province hosted a meeting on July 20, 2026, to review the military and security work results for July and set directions for future implementation. The meeting was presided over by Lieutenant General Som Son, Commander of the Kampong Thom Military Region, and attended by leaders at all levels, commanders of all units, office chiefs, and affiliated institutions. Lieutenant Colonel Chan Sothy, Deputy Chief of the Third Office of the Kampong Thomson Military Region Command, presented a report on the general situation and key work achievements accomplished in July 2026. The report detailed strengths, weaknesses, and some challenges encountered in the past month, along with a draft of future implementation directions for the meeting's discussion and supplementation. Following active interventions and discussions by meeting members, Lieutenant General Som Son praised the leaders at all levels, commanders of all units, office chiefs, and affiliated institutions of the Kampong Thom Military Region Command for their diligent efforts and high sense of responsibility in fulfilling their assigned duties with commendable success. Lieutenant General Som Son disseminated information on recent developments along the Cambodia-Thailand border, stating that the Thai military continues to violate the joint declaration of ceasefire dated December 27, 2025. He noted that the Thai military has repeatedly caused incidents, such as mobilizing forces, setting up ambushes, and constructing infrastructure that encroaches upon Cambodia's sovereign territory. He emphasized that the Cambodian People's Armed Forces have exercised restraint and strictly adhered to the orders, implementing the joint ceasefire declaration signed by both parties correctly. Lieutenant General Som Son assigned several important tasks for continued implementation: 1. All forces must be fully prepared for territorial integrity protection duties and continue to contribute alongside local authorities and specialized forces in effectively preventing, deterring, and suppressing natural resource crimes with success. They must also be prepared to rescue citizens affected by various natural disasters. 2. All military personnel under command must complete the opening of their personal bank accounts by the end of June 2027, in preparation for the subsequent monthly salary payments via the banking system. 3. Continue to cooperate with local authorities and the three armed forces in successfully implementing the government's "Safe Village, Commune, District" policy. Efforts should also be made to serve and address various difficulties for veterans facing hardship and for the families of soldiers performing territorial integrity protection duties in their respective local bases.
