Primary school teacher addicted to slot games commits robbery and murder in Pindaya, leaving mother and daughter dead
Mekong, May 21 In Pindaya, a primary school teacher addicted to slot games committed a robbery and stabbed a mother and daughter, resulting in both of their deaths, according to local residents. On the night of May 19, Nu Nu Htwe, a primary school teacher at the Phayar Phyu Basic Education Primary School in the Kyar Kone village tract of Pindaya Township, Southern Shan State, broke into the home of Daw Mya Kyi, a fellow villager, with the intent to commit robbery and attacked the mother and daughter with a knife. Upon hearing screams, relatives of the victims arrived at the scene and witnessed Nu Nu Htwe attacking them with a knife. Daw Mya Kyi was found lying on the floor with a stab wound to her lower left abdomen, while her 19-year-old daughter, Mee Oh (aka San San Aye), had sustained a stab wound under her right breast, a stab wound to her chest, a stab wound to her right thigh, and a laceration on her right thigh. The villagers surrounded Nu Nu Htwe and disarmed her. "When we heard the screams and went to check, we saw both the mother and daughter lying in a pool of blood. Everyone in the village was terrified," said a local resident. Although the two victims were rushed to the Pindaya Township Public Hospital by a charity vehicle from Min Mu village, both mother and daughter passed away one after another on May 20. "It was known in the village that she was heavily addicted to slot games. We had also heard that she was facing financial difficulties. Since only two women lived in Daw Mya Kyi's house, the teacher targeted them for the robbery," a local resident stated. Following the incident, the Pindaya police interrogated the teacher, Nu Nu Htwe, and confirmed that she was addicted to online gambling. Due to her need for money, she took advantage of the fact that only women lived in Daw Mya Kyi's house. When the victims resisted, she stabbed them. "Online gambling in this area has become uncontrollable. It is not just women committing murder and robbery like this; it is also causing problems within families. How can we prevent and control this? " questioned a local resident. Currently, Nu Nu Htwe is being held at the Pindaya Township Police Station and has been charged under Sections 302, 458, and 326 of the Penal Code. According to local residents, since the military coup, drug trafficking, drug use, and gambling have increased in the Danu Self-Administered Zone, leading to a decline in public morality and frequent incidents of theft and robbery.
