Hanoi to Build Pedestrian Square Before Thong Nhat Park
Hanoi is set to renovate the area along Tran Nhat Tung street in front of Thong Nhat Park, constructing a pedestrian square. The project aims for completion by the end of 2026.
Hai Ba Trung District in Hanoi has announced plans to renovate the area along Tran Nhat Tung street in front of Thong Nhat Park, constructing a pedestrian square and synchronizing infrastructure. The project aims to realize the urban design proposal for the area around Ho Tay lake. The highlight of the project is the construction of the Tran Nhat Tung pedestrian square, featuring a central fountain, a stone-paved event plaza, and lighting and decorative elements for cultural and community activities. Infrastructure for an underground water tank to serve the fountain, public drinking water supply posts, and stalls for fairs and events on the pedestrian street will also be established. The sidewalks of Tran Nhat Tung street will be replaced from block tiles to granite. Curbs, tree bed borders, and drainage covers will also be replaced with granite to ensure landscape uniformity. The two walls on either side of Thong Nhat Park's main entrance will be dismantled and combined with sidewalk renovation, tree planting, and lighting installation to create an open space connecting the square to the park. Trees affecting the square's design will be relocated to suitable locations. Additionally, surveillance cameras, LED screens, and other technical infrastructure will be added. Construction began in early July and is expected to be completed by December 31, 2026. The main gate of Thong Nhat Park will be renovated and repaired while maintaining its current state. Thong Nhat Park, spanning over 50 hectares, is surrounded by four streets: Tran Nhat Tung, Le Duan, Dai Co Viet, and Nguyen Dinh Chieu. After the removal of the surrounding fence to create an open space, the renovation of the Tran Nhat Tung sidewalks and the park gate area will be the final phase to complete the landscape around Thong Nhat Park.
