EDSA Rehabilitation to Conclude by 2027, Bataan-Cavite Bridge Nears Contract Awards

THE Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) expects to complete the second phase of the Epifanio de los Santos Avenue (EDSA) rehabilitation by next year while moving closer to awarding the first contract packages for the Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge. “We are doing it lane by lane to minimize the disruption,” Public Works Secretary Vivencio B. Dizon told reporters on Monday. The rehabilitation, which began in December 2025 under a revised two-phase plan, is being implemented one lane at a time to reduce traffic disruption. The first phase was completed in January. The P6-billion project, down from the original P17-billion estimate, involves asphalt overlay works from Monday to Friday and asphalt overlay and reblocking of one lane in each direction from Friday to Sunday during the second phase. Mr. Dizon also said the DPWH expects to award contract packages for the 32.15-kilometer Bataan-Cavite Interlink Bridge soon as bidding continues. The $3.91-billion project, co-financed by the Asian Development Bank, will connect Bataan and Cavite to improve regional connectivity and economic activity. — Ashley Erika O. Jose
