Vietnam Kicks Off New School Year with Unified Opening Ceremonies and Border Area School Inaugurations

The 2026-2027 academic year commenced nationwide in Vietnam on September 5 with unified opening ceremonies. Schools across the country observed solemn rituals including flag-raising, singing the national anthem, and the symbolic striking of a drum to mark the start of the school year. Notably, the inauguration of inter-level boarding schools located in land border communes was also carried out uniformly and synchronously on a national scale. This initiative aims to address disparities in educational infrastructure and strengthen the livelihoods of residents, particularly in border regions. The development of boarding schools is expected not only to provide quality educational opportunities for children in rural and remote areas but also to foster community development and a sense of national belonging. This reflects a concerted effort towards unified progress in the education sector, as part of Vietnam's Communist Party's strategy for national integration and development. Prior to the opening ceremonies, General Secretary and President Nguyen Phu Trong issued directives on new academic year preparations, and the Ministry of Education and Training held a conference chaired by Prime Minister Le Minh Hung to summarize the 2025-2026 academic year and implement tasks for 2026-2027. These actions underscore the significance of educational policy within Vietnam's one-party system and the strong commitment to state-led infrastructure development.
