Battambang Province Highlights Four Districts Leading in Rice Cultivation

Agricultural officials in Battambang Province have announced that four districts within the province are leading in rice cultivation. These districts are characterized by farmers cultivating rice two to three times per season on extensive farmlands, surpassing other areas. Specifically, two districts, Rukhak Kiri and Koas Kralor, possess agricultural land ranging from over 20,000 to 30,000 hectares. Additionally, four districts—Moung Ruessei, Banan, Thma Koul, and Bavet—have agricultural land exceeding 90,000 to 100,000 hectares. In contrast, five districts have agricultural land areas of less than 10,000 hectares. Other districts have rice paddy areas ranging only between 5,000 to 6,000 hectares. This disparity is attributed to the farmers in the larger districts cultivating rice two to three times per season. Besides rice, Battambang Province is also abundant in various types of fruits, earning its reputation as a "granary of rice." Despite some damage in two districts due to a lack of rainfall starting September 8th this year, continuous rainfall has recently begun, offering hope for the recovery and renewed growth of the affected rice crops. Battambang Province covers a total area of 11,702 square kilometers and has a population of approximately 1.13 million people, comprising 13 districts and one municipality.
