Indonesia Plans Solar Power Plants Along Java Toll Roads by 2027

The Indonesian government is advancing plans to install solar power plants (PLTS) along the Java Island toll road. This project targets implementation by 2027, aiming to reduce environmental impact and promote renewable energy. Tri Winarno, Acting Director General of Electricity (Dirjen Gatrik) at the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, revealed that his party is currently conducting a study on the use of areas around toll roads. He stated, "This year is for the study, and next year it will be executed." The utilization of toll roads is explained as an option to support the green area concept. Previous administrations had also requested studies on the potential capacity of PLTS if solar panels were developed along toll roads on Java Island. "If the entire toll road of Java is utilized, how much capacity can be achieved? Let's make it green," he said. For the initial phase, the development of PLTS will be carried out in the Bali Mandara toll road area. Solar panels are planned to be installed in the roadside areas of this toll road. This marks the initial phase of the 100 Gigawatt (GW) Solar Power Plant (PLTS) project. Besides Bali, the Prof. Dr. Ir. Sedyatmo toll road, which connects Jakarta with Soekarno-Hatta International Airport, is also being prepared as a location for installation. "It will be installed later. There are also plans to install it on the Sedyatmo (toll road) for those heading to Soetta," Tri added.
