New QR code for fuel purchase to be issued to vehicle owners whose vehicles were used by others through fraudulent means

New QR codes for fuel purchase will be issued to vehicle owners who have been victims of others fraudulently purchasing fuel using their vehicle registration numbers, the Ministry of Electricity and Energy announced on July 30. Vehicle owners who have been victims of others fraudulently purchasing fuel using their vehicle registration numbers will need to apply to the Directorate of Oil Products Supervision and Inspection, and the respective Region/State Inspection Officer's Offices, along with the aforementioned supporting documents, to have a new QR code for fuel purchase issued. These supporting documents include: (a) Original recommendation letter from the relevant Directorate of Road Transport and Highways confirming the authenticity of the motor vehicle registration certificate; (b) Colour copy of the motor vehicle registration certificate; (c) Colour copy of the vehicle owner's registration certificate; (d) Vehicle owner's residential address (Township, Region/State) and contact phone number; and (e) Evidence of fuel purchases made at other outlets using their vehicle registration number (date, time, shop name, etc.). Upon receiving applications with these details, the respective Region/State Inspection Officer's Offices will conduct scrutiny and submit the applications, after which new QR codes will be issued. It is understood that after the new QR codes are issued, fuel purchases will not be permitted using the barcode on the motor vehicle registration certificate for the said vehicle or the QR code issued by the sales outlet, but only with the newly issued QR code. Vehicle owners will be required to take responsibility for safeguarding the newly issued QR code to prevent damage or loss, the Ministry of Electricity and Energy announced.
