Vietnam, RoK Deepen Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, Boosting Cooperation in Economy, Tech, Environment

Vietnam and the Republic of Korea (RoK) are deepening their cooperation under a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, enhancing interconnectedness in trade, investment, and production. This collaboration is broadening in both scale and scope, creating new opportunities for higher-value production and stronger links between businesses through increased trade, expanding supply chains, and new investments in semiconductors, artificial intelligence, and green energy. The top legislator called on the Vietnam Innovation Network and experts in the RoK to share and transfer knowledge and international experience, particularly the RoK’s expertise in developing, mastering, and commercializing technology. Vietnamese citizens residing in the RoK were encouraged to strengthen solidarity, abide by local laws, contribute to bilateral ties, and preserve their language, national culture, and traditions. In education, Party General Secretary and State President To Lam has urged a strong shift from refining institutions and policies to effective implementation, ensuring adequate schools, classrooms, and teachers. He stressed that the ultimate goal of education is to nurture people, rather than pursue scores or qualifications. This aligns with Prime Minister's Directive No. 31/CT-TTg for the 2026–2027 school year, which calls for stronger innovation in education governance, a transition from "education management" to "education development governance," and effective implementation of breakthrough measures to advance education and training. Environmental protection and climate change response are central to Vietnam's national development strategy. Party Central Committee's Conclusion No. 75-KL/TW sets a 2030 target for strengthening environmental governance, climate change adaptation, and disaster prevention and control to better protect people's lives, health, property, and livelihoods. By 2045, Vietnam aims for a clean and healthy living environment in harmony with nature, sustainable development, a modern environmental governance system, and effective adaptation to climate change. These goals are emphasized as fundamental to green transition, improved growth quality, productivity, competitiveness, and sustainable economic development. Vietnam has achieved remarkable socio-economic progress over the past eight decades, marked by strong economic growth, rising incomes, and significant improvements in social welfare and quality of life. The August 1945 General Uprising, led by the Party and President Ho Chi Minh, ushered in a new era, demonstrating the Party's wisdom and leadership. Economic activity remains robust, reflected in domestic consumption. In the first seven months of 2026, total retail sales of goods and consumer service revenue were estimated at approximately 174.7 billion USD, up 13.1% year-on-year, indicating continued growth in the service sector. Tourism also saw a significant rebound, with the country welcoming around 6.5 million visitors during the National Day holiday, a 22% increase year-on-year. Air traffic also surged, with Noi Bai International Airport handling a substantial rise in take-offs, landings, and passenger numbers. Vietnam has also rolled out a national program for 2026–2030 aimed at strengthening child protection and preventing and reducing child labor in violation of the law. Internationally, efforts are underway to strengthen friendships and cooperation with various countries, including high-level visits and strategic dialogues with nations like Côte d'Ivoire and Singapore.
