Jakarta Rally: Diverse Citizens Pledge to Uphold Security for Indonesia

A national rally titled 'Guard Jakarta for Indonesia' was held at Monas Square in central Jakarta on Saturday (8/8). Approximately 11,000 participants from various community elements, including Islamic organizations, motorcycle taxi drivers, students, laborers, and security guards, attended the event. Top police and military officials also graced the occasion. Following the rally, the Jakarta Metropolitan Police Chief, Komjen Pol Asep Edi Suheri, and the Jakarta Regional Commander, Letjen TNI Deddy Suryadi, were seen mingling with and shaking hands with the participants as they walked along the rows. This interaction highlighted the camaraderie between the security forces and the citizens. During the event, participants read out a five-point declaration pledging to safeguard Jakarta. The declaration emphasized commitment to maintaining Jakarta as a safe, orderly, peaceful, and comfortable home for all its residents and as a showcase for Indonesia globally. It also stressed unity in diversity, rejecting any form of provocation, intolerance, violence, and division that could disrupt national unity. The declaration further called for strengthened mutual cooperation between the government, military, police, business sector, communities, youth, and all citizens. It also included a pledge to protect the nation's youth and future from drugs, crime, and radicalism by fostering a healthy and productive environment. Finally, it asserted readiness to protect Jakarta with discipline, care, tolerance, and national spirit for a progressive Jakarta and a sovereign, just, and prosperous Indonesia. The rally underscored the collective will of diverse citizens to uphold security and national unity.
