Vietnam Border Guards Enhance Joint Operations Capability with Large-Scale Exercise

In Muong Leo Commune, Son La Province, Northern Vietnam, from July 23rd to 24th, the Muong Leo Border Guard Station and the Son La Provincial Border Guard Command jointly conducted a large-scale operational exercise aimed at strengthening the regional defense system. This exercise was part of the Son La Provincial Defense Exercise scheduled for 2026 and was specifically designated as the "Muong Leo Commune Operation Exercise within the Regional Defense System." The objective was to enhance combat readiness from the grassroots level. Specifically, it included large-scale civil defense drills to improve emergency medical response capabilities and exercises to boost preparedness for natural disasters and landslides. The exercise was successfully completed, reportedly being the first commune/township-level operational drill conducted nationwide. This demonstrates Vietnam's focus on strengthening its border security capabilities and establishing readiness for regional conflicts. The Vietnamese Communist Party government, while promoting economic growth under its one-party system, prioritizes security policies that consider its relationships with neighboring regions, particularly China, and such military exercises are seen as part of this strategy.
