Rain Begins to Fall in Jakarta and Surrounding Areas
The rainy season has arrived in Jakarta and its surrounding areas, with rain beginning to fall in some regions. While concerns over prolonged water shortages may ease, future rainfall and infrastructure impacts are being closely watched.
Rain has begun to fall in Jakarta and its surrounding areas, marking the arrival of the rainy season. Observations by detikcom indicated that the downpour started in the Jagakarsa area of South Jakarta around 5:10 PM WIB on Saturday (September 19, 2026). By 5:54 PM WIB, the rain was still falling with considerable intensity. In Depok, West Java, rain also occurred in the afternoon, though it was brief. South Tangerang (Tangsel) also experienced rainfall, specifically in the BSD area. In contrast, North Jakarta's Tanjung Priok area had been under cloudy skies since 4:00 PM WIB. According to the Meteorology, Climatology, and Geophysics Agency (BMKG) forecast at 5:55 PM WIB, light rain was expected across Central Jakarta, South Jakarta, East Jakarta, and West Jakarta for the day. North Jakarta, however, was predicted to be partly cloudy. Furthermore, the BMKG anticipated light rain in Bogor Regency, Bogor City, Depok, and Bekasi. The commencement of rainfall could provide some respite from the persistent water scarcity issues faced by Jakarta. Nevertheless, ongoing observation of rainfall patterns and their subsequent effects on the city's infrastructure remains essential.
