AI Summary

Over 600,000 Vietnamese products are now featured on Alibaba's B2B platform, showcasing Vietnam's international competitiveness within the context of its relationship with China. Furniture, textiles, and agricultural products are prominent, with AI adoption expected to boost cross-border exports.

Over 600,000 Vietnamese products are now present on Alibaba, a wholesale (B2B) e-commerce platform, with furniture, textiles, and agricultural products being the most common. Roger Luo, Regional Director for South Asia and Southeast Asia at Alibaba's wholesale platform, shared this information at a conference in Ho Chi Minh City on August 6. He stated that with 600,000 products available, reaching over 50 million B2B buyers in 200 markets, Vietnamese businesses "have demonstrated their competitiveness on the international stage." From April 2025 to March 2026, the number of new Vietnamese exporters joining the platform increased by approximately 10%. Currently, "Made in Vietnam" products excel in wooden furniture, textiles, and agricultural produce. Representatives from the cross-border e-commerce platform noted that international customers are seeking more supply options than ever before. Vietnam, in this regard, is a destination that possesses all the necessary conditions to seize this opportunity. "Vietnam, with its production capacity, strategic location, and strong entrepreneurial spirit, is in a unique position to embrace this wave," Luo said. Tống Duy Hiếu, Business Director for the Mekong region at A.P. Moller - Maersk, agreed, stating that geopolitical fluctuations and supply chain shifts are prompting many buyers to diversify their sources. This presents an opportunity for Mekong countries like Vietnam to emerge as strategic hubs in the value chain, leveraging their advantageous gateway locations, numerous free trade agreements, and skilled labor force. Ethan Wang, Global Director of Product & Customer Service for Alibaba's B2B platform, considers Vietnam one of the most important supply markets in the world for his company. However, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) often face three barriers when entering the global market: the time it takes to adapt and integrate, a shortage of specialized personnel, and operational pressures. Language barriers, intricate legal frameworks, and overlapping tax systems create significant obstacles for both buyers and sellers. Therefore, experts recommend that businesses focus on producing quality products and applying artificial intelligence (AI) technology in cross-border exports. "AI is no longer a technology of the future. It has become a core infrastructure, reshaping how businesses operate," Roger Luo stated. On Alibaba's wholesale platform, sellers can now use AI agent tools that operate immediately without setup (plug-and-play), automating the entire business process from start to finish, 24/7. In late July, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee issued a master plan for e-commerce development for the 2026-2030 period, which includes promoting cross-border e-commerce and increasing the application of new technologies like AI. Lê Anh Hoàng, Deputy Director of the Ho Chi Minh City Trade and Investment Promotion Center (ITPC), said the center will coordinate with cross-border e-commerce platforms to organize e-commerce training sessions to support businesses in developing effective online export channels.
