26 Sets of Martyrs' Remains Collected in Dong Nai, Numerous Artifacts Found

In Vietnam's southern Dong Nai Province, efforts are underway to collect the remains of fallen soldiers from the war. According to an announcement by the Dong Nai Military Command on July 27, Unit K72 had collected the remains of 26 martyrs by July 26 in Binh Minh Hamlet, Minh Duc Commune, Long Thanh District. Initially, one burial site was identified as containing two sets of remains, but excavation revealed three. Approximately five meters away, another burial site, initially estimated to contain two sets of remains, was found to hold six upon excavation. During this collection process, hundreds of artifacts were discovered, including firearms, ammunition, mines, canteens, combs, razors, and toothbrushes. This activity aims to collect the remains of soldiers who perished in the Vietnam War (the resistance against the US), to honor their sacrifice, provide information to their families, and ensure dignified burials. Such remains collection activities are continuously conducted nationwide in Vietnam and are considered a matter of national importance. This can be seen as part of the Vietnamese government's efforts, under its one-party system, to manage the memory of past wars and utilize it as a symbol of national unity. It can also be interpreted as an expression of the government's commitment to social stability by showing respect for past legacies, even as the country continues its economic growth.
