TRB Orders NLEX Operator to Explain Pampanga Flooding

MANILA, Philippines — The Toll Regulatory Board (TRB) has ordered the North Luzon Expressway (NLEx) Corp., which operates the expressway, to explain the widespread flooding experienced over the weekend at Tulaoc Bridge near San Simon, Pampanga. The incident left thousands of motorists stuck in heavy traffic, some for nearly 22 hours. In a letter shared by the TRB, the agency directed NLEX Corp. to explain the cause of the flooding and the measures it will take to prevent future occurrences. "The TRB is hereby directing NLEX Corp. to submit a written explanation within five (5) days from receipt of this Order on the cause of the flooding and the measures to be undertaken to prevent future occurrences," the TRB said. The flooding incident highlights the critical importance of infrastructure management, especially during the rainy season in the Philippines. Frequent heavy rains often lead to widespread flooding, significantly disrupting transportation networks. Major disruptions on key expressways like NLEX can also have ripple effects on economic activities.
