Son La Province Deploys Military in Flood Disaster Search Operations

In response to the complex situation of heavy rains and flooding in Vietnam's northern Son La Province, officers and soldiers from the Son La Provincial Military Command have rapidly deployed their forces. They are coordinating with local authorities, police, and on-site forces to conduct search and rescue operations, overcome the consequences of natural disasters, and support residents. The military's activities in Son La Province are part of Vietnam's response to frequent natural disasters across the country. Recent incidents include the mobilization of 200 people in Tuyen Quang Province to search for missing individuals in forests, and an all-night search for a woman isolated by heavy rains along a stream in Quang Tri Province. In the same province, a tragic accident occurred where a container truck attempted to cross a flooded stream, resulting in the driver being swept away and disappearing. Furthermore, the last victim of a flash flood at the Dong Dang-Tra Linh project area has been found. These disasters highlight the impact of climate change and the challenges of infrastructure development that Vietnam faces. Under its one-party system, Vietnam has a centralized disaster management structure, but the capacity for rapid response at the local level is constantly being tested.
