AYEYARWADDY TIMES September 20 According to the testimony of a soldier from the Myanmar military who was captured during clashes between September 16 in the area between Kwan Taw and Ami Yin Kyun villages, near the border of Sittwe and Ponnagyun townships in Rakhine State, it is known that they were instructed to kill everyone, including children, wherever they were found. The soldier, Aung Phyu Soe, from Infantry Battalion (252) under the command of the 101st Light Infantry Division based in Ponnagyun, was captured by the Arakan Army (AA). He testified, "We have been instructed to kill everyone we see, including children and adults. If we see a cow, we are told to take it, and if we see a chicken, we are told to take it." According to the testimony of the captured soldier Aung Phyu Soe, it is known that there is a complete lack of command and control, mutual compassion, and loyalty within the military. He revealed that after completing military training until the time of his capture, he was left behind and captured because his superiors abandoned him and fled during the fighting. He also stated that morale among the troops is declining due to the self-interest of officers, lack of loyalty among fellow soldiers, and lack of compassion. He stated that he was threatened with being shot or sentenced to prison if he tried to escape from the military. He also testified that after his capture, the Arakan Army (AA) has been providing him with adequate food, water, meals, medicine, and care. Furthermore, another soldier, Michael, who was also captured, testified and urged others to escape if they get the chance. The AA has released video and photographic records of weapons, ammunition, drones, and military equipment obtained from the recent clashes for the public to see.
