More than 1.35 billion kyats have been proposed for the renovation and construction of toilets in 235 basic education schools in the Yangon Region in the current fiscal year, according to U Bo Htay, the Minister of Social Affairs of the Yangon Region Government. Minister U Bo Htay stated this in response to a question raised by Daw Khine Sue Yee Zaw, the regional representative for Constituency-2 of Bahan Township, during the ninth day of the second regular session of the third Yangon Region Hluttaw held on June 29. The question concerned plans to develop and implement long-term strategies for ensuring the cleanliness of school toilets, the surrounding environment, and the safety of school-front food stalls in basic education schools within the Yangon Region. It was reported that 689.8395 million kyats were allocated for 130 basic education schools in the 2024-2025 fiscal year, and 863.437 million kyats were allocated for 145 basic education schools in the 2025-2026 fiscal year. Furthermore, Minister U Bo Htay stated that maintenance work for the long-term sustainability of school toilets will be carried out annually, and the necessary cleaning expenses will be supported through the budget line item for cleaning labor costs.
