Cambodia Offers 3,800 Job Opportunities and Social Security to Boost Domestic Employment

The Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, on August 1st, organized a forum on employment, social security, and vocational training in Kampong Cham district, Prey Veng province, under the theme 'Khmer helps find jobs and gives jobs to Khmers.' This event provided information on 3,800 job opportunities, the National Social Security Fund (NIS), and Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) programs to over 600 citizens, particularly former migrant workers returning from Thailand and young job seekers. Ms. Mao Thida, Secretary of State of the Ministry, stated that there are currently over 90,000 job opportunities available nationwide. The forum brought 3,800 job openings from enterprises, companies, and factories directly to the local community, enabling citizens to register, undergo interviews, and secure employment immediately. She emphasized that this initiative is part of the government and ministry's efforts to ensure citizens, especially returning migrant workers, find decent jobs, earn income, and improve their family's living standards. Domestic employment contributes to building the national economy, while employees receive benefits from NIS, including risk coverage, healthcare, and pensions, similar to civil servants. Special provisions are made for pregnant women, offering prenatal check-ups, healthcare, and subsidies until their children reach two years of age. Ms. Thida also highlighted the risks associated with working in Thailand, such as safety issues, labor exploitation, lack of health protection, violence, discrimination, and family separation. In response, Cambodia has implemented a Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL) system for eight skills in the construction sector, aiming to provide formal skill certificates and ensure fair wages. Furthermore, returning workers and youth can enroll in free technical training programs through the '1.5 Million TVET Program' at the Prey Veng Polytechnic Institute or via mobile training units. The available skills include construction, machinery repair, electrical work, air conditioning, baking, coffee making, and salon services, aligning with the national policy of 'at least one lifelong skill for every citizen,' enabling them to start their own businesses. She urged citizens to disseminate information about job opportunities, NIS benefits, and TVET programs to their families and friends. For those intending to work abroad, she advised choosing legal companies, verifying their registration with authorities, or contacting the hotline for job matching at 1297 and for NIS services at 1286. The over 3,800 job opportunities presented at the forum were sourced from companies including Thakao Agro, Shan Feng (Cambodia) Company Limited, Cambodian Garment Training Institute (CGTI), as well as labor recruitment firms for Japan and Mongkol HR.
