Indonesia Strengthens Bilateral Ties with Croatia at Dubrovnik Forum, Strategic Meetings

The Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Republic of Indonesia (Wamenlu RI), M. Anis Matta, strengthened Indonesian diplomacy with Croatia during a series of working visits to the country last week. Anis Matta visited Croatia from June 24-27, representing the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs at the Dubrovnik Forum 2026 and working to bolster bilateral relations between Indonesia and Croatia. The forum, celebrating its 20th anniversary this year, carries the theme "The Age of Multipolarity: Many Directions, One Future." On the sidelines of the forum, the Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister held a bilateral meeting with Frano Matušić, the State Secretary of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Affairs of Croatia. Both parties discussed various agendas aimed at strengthening bilateral cooperation, including increasing trade and investment, education, digitization, tourism, the defense industry, and Croatia's support for Indonesia's interests within the European Union region. Indonesia proposed several concrete initiatives, such as establishing a regular business forum, developing an integrated religious tourism package, logistics cooperation utilizing the Port of Rijeka, and collaboration in the film industry involving creative industry players from both nations. The meeting resulted in several important understandings, including accelerating the finalization of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on the placement of Indonesian migrant workers in the hospitality sector, Croatia's support for Indonesia's accession process to the OECD, and the completion of the Indonesia-European Union Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (IEU-CEPA). A joint commitment to expand economic and educational cooperation was also made. Both sides also exchanged views on the development of Indonesia-EU relations and the importance of collaboration between developing and middle-income countries in maintaining international stability amid global uncertainty. During the same series of visits, the Indonesian Deputy Foreign Minister paid a courtesy call to Aziz Effendi Hasanović, the Grand Mufti of Croatia, at the Islamic Center Zagreb. Discussions focused on global geopolitical developments, the state of the Islamic world, strengthening networks of Muslim communities, and the significance of interreligious dialogue and religious moderation.
