Cambodia Kicks Off Interim National Water Master Plan to Enhance Climate Resilience

The Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology of Cambodia has organized a kick-off meeting for the development of an Interim National Water Master Plan, a significant step towards strengthening climate change adaptation capabilities. The meeting, held on July 22, 2026, in Phnom Penh, was attended by representatives from the Australian Embassy to the Kingdom of Cambodia. The objective of the meeting was to initiate the development of the interim water master plan and to review and provide recommendations on its scope, methodology, and draft content. This aims to ensure the quality and practicality of the outcomes, making the plan comprehensive and implementable. This Interim National Water Master Plan is a key activity under the recently launched Australia-Cambodia Partnership for Climate Resilience (ACP4Climate) program. The program aims to support the Cambodian government in enhancing its capacity for climate-resilient water resource management and master planning. Dr. An Pich Hatda, Secretary of State of the Ministry of Water Resources and Meteorology, stated that this interim plan will serve as a valuable foundation for future national water master plans, aligning with Cambodia's "Pentagonal Strategy Phase I" and the "Cambodia Vision 2050." He emphasized the importance of close cooperation and participation from all relevant stakeholders to ensure the plan is comprehensive, scientifically based, and usable as a strategic document for sustainable water resource management and development.
