'Thai Travel Plus' Project Delays August Cabinet Approval, Deputy PM Commerce Minister Explains

Supachai Suthamphun, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Commerce, in her capacity as Chairperson of the Sub-committee on Trade, Tourism, and Community Economic Development under the Joint Public-Private Sector Committee for Solving Economic Problems, provided an update on the 'Thai Travel Plus' project. She stated that discussions are ongoing to determine how the project will be implemented within the current limited budget. Consideration is being given to the timing of budget expenditure and the available funds. Suthamphun mentioned that she has been in talks with Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Finance, Aekkanit Nitithanprapas, and expressed an intention to push the project forward. She emphasized the importance of ensuring that benefits are distributed equitably to all operators, including small and micro enterprises, similar to the past 'Kon La Kreung' (Half-Price Travel) project. She also indicated that the existing system from the 'Thai Travel Plus' project is likely to be utilized. When asked if the project could be presented for cabinet approval within August after the public hearing process, Suthamphun replied that it is not yet the case. She noted that the Minister of Tourism and Sports has also submitted proposals. As the supervisor of the Ministry of Tourism and Sports, she herself needs to carefully consider the reasonableness of the project from the perspective of stimulating the economy while ensuring that tourism operators receive equitable income. Regarding the possibility of the 'Thai Travel Plus' project being implemented by the end of the year, Suthamphun stated that they are currently considering the final form of the project and the allocated budget.
