Cambodia's ITF Taekwondo Aims for Victory and National Flag at Asian Championship

Keo Remy, President of the Cambodian ITF Taekwondo Federation, has revealed that the primary goal for the Cambodian delegation participating in the 11th Asian Championship, scheduled to be held in Mongolia from August 3rd to 9th, 2026, is to achieve victory and have the Cambodian flag raised during the medal ceremony for gold medalists, thereby enhancing the nation's prestige on the international stage. This declaration was made during a press conference held on the afternoon of July 17th, 2026, at the National Sports Training Center in Phnom Penh. President Keo Remy stated, "We hope that Cambodia achieves victory, and during the awarding of gold medals, the Cambodian flag will be raised, and foreigners will stand in respect of our flag. This is our aspiration to elevate the nation's honor and prestige on the international stage." Furthermore, President Keo Remy emphasized Cambodia's intention to bid for the hosting rights of the next Asian Championship in 2028, leveraging the opportunity of participating in this year's event in Mongolia. He explained, "Securing hosting rights is crucial not only for the sport itself but also for attracting tourists, generating economic benefits through accommodation and dining. The bid for hosting rights does not involve monetary aspects but requires demonstrating our capability and readiness. The presidents of the Asian ITF Taekwondo Federation and the international federation have inquired whether Cambodia is interested in hosting in 2028." The Cambodian ITF Taekwondo Federation plans to submit a bid for the 2028 hosting rights and will produce a video to showcase Cambodia's preparedness to the international community. The president added, "If we are successful in securing the hosting rights for 2028, Cambodian athletes will need to train even more rigorously than ever before to win medals for the nation." A delegation of 47 people, including 32 athletes, along with coaches, assistants, and support staff, will be dispatched to the Asian Championship in Mongolia. A portion of the airfare will be covered by the federation, with the remainder being borne by the athletes' parents, and some support also coming from Vattanac Bank.
