A flag-hoisting ceremony marking the 59th anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) was held in Hanoi, Vietnam. At the ceremony, Minister of Foreign Affairs Le Hoai Trung reflected on ASEAN's historic journey from an era of division and confrontation to a community of peace, progress, and shared prosperity. He noted that ASEAN's current economy is worth US$3.9 trillion with a population of nearly 700 million, highlighting its significance in regional growth. Vietnam has come a long way in its 31 years of ASEAN membership since joining in 1995. From being a newcomer, it has grown to play a crucial role in shaping ASEAN's rules and norms. Throughout this period, Vietnam has actively contributed to the building of the ASEAN community, fostering regional stability and prosperity. The anniversary ceremony served as an occasion to renew the commitment to address challenges facing ASEAN and further deepen regional cooperation and integration. Vietnam, adhering to ASEAN principles, will continue to promote peace and economic development within the region through dialogue and cooperation.
