Ho Chi Minh City Collects 245 Sets of Martyrs' Remains at Le Thi Rieng Park

Ho Chi Minh City continues its efforts to collect the remains of martyrs at Le Thi Rieng Park, recently gathering an additional 17 sets. This brings the total number of collected remains at the park to 245. According to the City Military Command, search and collection teams are expanding their search radius in Khu B (Area B) where remains are suspected to be located. This activity highlights the reality that many martyrs' remains have gone undiscovered since the end of the Vietnam War. The Vietnamese government prioritizes the collection and proper commemoration of these remains for the nation's peace and the well-being of its citizens. The City Military Command has requested support from the United States to enhance the DNA identification capabilities for the remains. This is a crucial step in accurately identifying and returning unidentified remains to their families. Furthermore, the command is also offering free photo restoration services for martyrs and seeking witnesses and relatives of martyrs who died in the 1968 battle at Tan Son Nhat Airport. These activities are viewed as part of the ongoing efforts under Vietnam's one-party system to heal the wounds of past wars and foster national unity. Alongside economic growth, honoring the nation's historical legacy and sacrifices is also a key element in strengthening the regime's legitimacy.
