Cordillera Roads Damaged by Typhoon Luis and Monsoon Rains

Several major roads in the Cordillera Administrative Region (CAR) in northern Philippines have been closed or reduced to one-lane traffic due to heavy rains brought by Typhoon Luis and the monsoon. According to the Department of Public Works and Highways (DPWH) regional office, mudflows, road slips, and soil and rockfall have occurred. In Benguet province, a section of the Baguio-Bontoc Road, commonly known as the "Mountain Trail," is now passable only on one lane, causing traffic delays. This road is one of the most vital transportation arteries in the region, connecting Baguio City to the Bontoc area. The DPWH stated that they are monitoring the affected roads and will undertake prompt restoration work as soon as safety is assured.
