Vietnam Enhances Global Standing via BRICS Participation and European Ties

Vietnam is steadily enhancing its presence on the international stage through its participation in BRICS summits and the deepening of its comprehensive strategic partnership with France. Recent reports indicate that Vietnam's leadership has attended a BRICS summit for the first time, demonstrating its commitment to global issues and its responsible approach to the future of the region and the world. This participation signifies Vietnam's growing international role. Furthermore, Vietnam places importance on its relationship with France, a key partner in Europe, aiming to further deepen their comprehensive strategic partnership. Both nations have agreed to strengthen cooperation in various fields, including defense and security, UN peacekeeping operations, and combating organized crime. Collaboration in areas such as military medicine, education and training, maritime cooperation, and the defense industry will further solidify their strategic ties. Economically, Vietnam and India have set an ambitious target to increase bilateral trade to US$25 billion by 2030. Significant potential exists for creating new growth drivers in sectors like science-technology, innovation, digital transformation, semiconductors, pharmaceuticals, critical minerals, and energy, aligning with Vietnam's development needs and India's growing strengths. Domestically, moves towards strengthening party discipline are evident, with the Communist Party of Vietnam Central Committee's Commission for Inspection proposing disciplinary action against a Vice Chairman of the Phu Tho Provincial People's Committee. Ensuring adequate fuel supplies, described as the "lifeblood" of the economy, is also a top priority from a national security perspective. Additionally, Vietnam has adopted Resolution No. 27 on regional development, positioning regional development as a means of national growth. This aims to promote integrated urban, industrial, agricultural, maritime, border-gate, and logistics spaces, enhancing the competitiveness of localities following administrative unit restructuring. These developments highlight Vietnam's pursuit of economic growth under its one-party system, while simultaneously expanding its international influence and pursuing a multi-faceted foreign policy.
