Cambodian Senate Committee Visits Poipet Province to Address Local Issues

The 8th Committee of the Cambodian Senate (responsible for Health, Social Affairs, Veterans, Youth Rehabilitation, Vocational Training, and Women's Affairs) visited Poipet Province on July 20th and held a working meeting with the provincial administration. The visit aimed to monitor the implementation of laws within the committee's jurisdiction and to gather information on resident requests and challenges at the local level. The meeting was warmly welcomed by the Chairman of the Poipet Provincial Council and the Governor of Poipet Province, with participation from numerous heads of provincial departments and relevant technical agencies. The committee chair, leading the delegation, conveyed greetings and deep concern from the Senate President, the First Vice-President, and the Second Vice-President of the Senate. She also briefed attendees on the role, structure, and functions of the Senate. Notably, it was highlighted that in the current 5th legislature, the Senate President has set two key priority tasks: promoting parliamentary diplomacy and working closely with commune/district councils, who represent the people at the grassroots level. Reports from the provincial administration and relevant departments showcased progress in areas such as promoting public health and well-being, providing healthcare services, social protection for vulnerable groups, veterans, and persons with disabilities, labor force utilization, and advancing gender equality. This progress was attributed to the unity and trust of the people under the wise and visionary leadership of Prime Minister Hun Manet. The committee chair expressed high praise and appreciation for the provincial leadership, civil servants, and armed forces for their collaborative efforts in achieving significant accomplishments, contributing to the maintenance of peace, security, and public order within Poipet Province. Regarding the challenges and requests raised, she stated that they would be reported to the Standing Committee and the Senate for consideration, with efforts to find solutions through parliamentary and governmental mechanisms, ultimately aiming to serve the interests of the people more effectively.
