Clear Mind Pattaya: Small Actions Spark Community Change

PATTAYA, Thailand – A growing volunteer initiative is encouraging residents to see community service not as a grand promise to change the world, but as a series of practical choices that can improve one life, one beach or one neighborhood at a time. During a presentation at the Pattaya City Expats Club’s meeting (PCEC), Community volunteers Alexander Zdorenko and Yana Lee shared a message about “Clear Mind Pattaya,” a grassroots group founded by three people and now attracting a wider network of supporters. Alexander and Yana said the initiative is built on a straightforward belief: small actions matter, and people can accomplish more when they act together. Alexander illustrated the idea with an everyday trip to a shop, where coffee, a snack and a bottle of water can each come with a separate plastic bag used for only a few minutes. One bag may appear insignificant, he said, but millions of similar choices create mountains of waste. Reusing a shopping bag, refusing unnecessary plastic or picking up a discarded item are modest decisions that collectively leave the environment cleaner. That principle extends beyond litter, according to the presenters. Clear Mind brings together people of different ages, nationalities, backgrounds and abilities, connecting volunteers, charitable organizations and useful ideas. The group has joined Good News Planet Cleanup on beach cleanups and other environmental activities, and recently established a branch in Kampot, Cambodia, where its first efforts focused on cleaning local beaches. Clear Mind also works with charitable organizations serving children, helping arrange educational outings and special experiences at attractions such as water parks, aquariums and a dolphinarium. Yana said an activity that lasts only a day for a volunteer can become a lasting memory for a child—a chance to discover something new and simply enjoy being a child. Animal welfare is another part of the initiative’s work. Volunteers support a local dog shelter by bringing food and other requested supplies, visiting animals and helping coordinate donations. The presenters said children, animals and the environment may appear to be separate causes, but all depends on people who are willing to care. Participation is not limited to those able to spend a day at a cleanup or shelter. Supporters can offer time, professional skills, ideas, contacts, transportation, clothing, unused household items, food, animal-care supplies or financial contributions. Clear Mind can also help match donations with current needs and arrange collections through direct messages to the group. Upcoming projects, including beach cleanups, are generally announced on Facebook one or two weeks in advance. Residents can follow Clear Mind Pattaya and partner organizations for schedules, contact the group to coordinate a donation or ask how their particular skills and resources could help. Clear Mind’s ambitions are deliberately grounded. Rather than claiming it can solve every problem, the initiative focuses on achievable outcomes: making one child happier, one animal safer, one beach cleaner and one new connection between people and organizations. As Alexander put it, no one person is being asked to do everything; many people are being invited to do a little.
