Motorists in the Philippines are set to enjoy a significant rollback in fuel prices next week, offering a much-needed respite. Industry sources, citing Mean of Platts Singapore (MOPS) trading and foreign exchange averages over the past four days, project substantial reductions across gasoline, diesel, and kerosene. The primary driver behind this anticipated price drop is the easing of geopolitical risk premiums associated with the US-Iran conflict. This has led to a decline in international crude oil prices. Despite lingering uncertainties and persistent risks to Red Sea shipping, the overall reduction in geopolitical tensions has contributed to stabilizing crude prices. Fuel products have followed crude oil's downward trend, with Asian diesel and gasoline prices falling sharply. This decline is attributed to reduced supply premiums as geopolitical risks receded. In the Philippines, oil companies typically announce price adjustments every Monday, which take effect the following day. This week, effective August 4, price cuts were implemented: P0.73 per liter for gasoline, P0.60 per liter for diesel, and P2.09 per liter for kerosene. Furthermore, a stronger Philippine peso against the US dollar this week has exerted additional downward pressure on domestic prices. For the Philippine economy, fluctuations in fuel prices have a direct impact on the consumer price index (CPI).
