Vietnam Celebrates National Day with Giant Flag, Guinness Record

Vietnam celebrated its 81st National Day on September 2nd with a special flag-raising ceremony at the Hanoi Flagpole in Dat Mui, Ca Mau province, the southernmost point of the country. This event symbolized national unity and celebrated the nation's development. During the ceremony, the Vietnam Record Organization officially recognized the giant flag as "Vietnam's Largest Fabric National Flag" and presented the certificate to the Ca Mau Provincial People's Committee. The flag is an impressive 60 meters long and 33.75 meters wide, covering an area of 2,025 square meters and weighing approximately 320 kilograms. Nearly 1,500 officials, soldiers, youth union members, students, and local residents participated in the event, witnessing the hoisting of the massive flag. As part of the "Vietnam Across 2025-2027" journey, this giant flag had previously been displayed at the Lang Sen Festival in Nghe An province and during activities in Hanoi before reaching the country's southern tip. This event reflects the national solidarity under Vietnam's one-party system and the heightened patriotism fueled by economic growth. It can also be seen as an effort to emphasize domestic unity, particularly amidst ongoing tensions with China over issues in the South China Sea. The giant flag also aligns with Vietnam's national strategies, such as infrastructure development and inter-regional connectivity. As Vietnam continues its economic growth, such national events serve to strengthen internal cohesion and enhance its international standing.
