Cambodia Resolves JS Factory Labor Dispute Swiftly; Workers Return to Normal Operations

The Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training in Cambodia has successfully and swiftly resolved a labor dispute at JS Leather Collection Phnom Penh Co., Ltd. An agreement has been reached between all parties, and workers are expected to resume their normal duties starting August 4, 2026. Sun Mesa, spokesperson for the Ministry of Labour and Vocational Training, stated on August 3, 2026, that the ministry had immediately dispatched leadership and technical officials to intervene. The ministry facilitated negotiations between company representatives, worker representatives, trade unions, and relevant authorities, leading to a peaceful resolution of the dispute. According to the agreement, the company has consented to improve management and the work environment, relocate machinery that was causing issues for workers, ensure no discrimination against trade unions and worker representatives, and strictly adhere to labor laws and internal regulations. The workers, in turn, have agreed to end the dispute and return to work as usual, with future issues to be resolved through dialogue and peaceful procedures. "The concerns of our workers are the concerns of His Excellency the Minister and the Prime Prime Minister. When our workers have problems, the ministry does not wait; we intervene immediately, listen to all parties, and find a balanced solution in accordance with the law to protect the interests of the workers and maintain the sustainability of the business operations of the enterprise. The workers' return to work as normal is a tangible result of dialogue, understanding, and shared responsibility among all parties," Sun Mesa stated. He added that this swift resolution demonstrates the effectiveness of the ministry's labor dispute resolution mechanism, which prioritizes dialogue, respect for the law, and maintaining harmony in professional relationships to ensure both the rights of workers and the confidence of investors in Cambodia.
