Panasonic Eyes Cambodia for Manufacturing Hub, Expands Tech Cooperation

PHNOM PENH, Sept. 3, 2026 (KPT) — World‑class electronic giant Panasonic is weighing Cambodia as a potential site for future manufacturing while expanding cooperation in energy‑efficient technologies, human resource development and product standards, officials said Wednesday. Industry Minister Hem Vanndy met a senior Panasonic delegation led by Eiichi Katayama, President and CEO of Panasonic HVAC & CC, to discuss opportunities for deeper engagement. Vanndy highlighted Cambodia’s push to diversify its industrial base into automotive, electronics and other higher‑value activities, alongside efforts to strengthen skills, quality infrastructure and research. He urged Panasonic to view Cambodia not only as a market but also as a production hub. “Cambodia presents a very good opportunity if Panasonic is considering diversifying its manufacturing base,” Vanndy said. “We don’t say we are a perfect market, but we are a committed market to serious investors like Panasonic.” Panasonic outlined three areas for cooperation: energy efficiency and advanced HVAC solutions; technology and human resource development; and quality standards and enforcement. The company plans to introduce new commercial air‑conditioning technology and continue supporting Cambodian engineers and students through scholarships, internships and technical training at home and abroad. “Cambodia is one of the very important markets for us,” Katayama said. “We want to support your country’s development and bring our technology and know‑how here.” Panasonic also backed consistent enforcement of Cambodian standards to promote fair competition and consumer protection. Vanndy welcomed the company’s investment in human capital and said MISTI stood ready to support any future production expansion.
