Shop selling substandard pesticide "Shwe Aung Lan" without permission closed, distributing company fined 1 million kyats

In Aunglan Township, Magway Region, a shop selling the substandard pesticide "Shwe Aung Lan" without permission was closed, and the company distributing the pesticide was fined 1 million kyats, according to the Myanmar Pesticide Registration Board. The Ministry of Agriculture, Livestock and Irrigation is working to develop the agricultural sector and promote safe and healthy agricultural products. In line with this, the ministry is also taking action against businesses involved in the import, storage, production, and distribution of agricultural inputs to ensure they are free from counterfeiting and meet quality standards, in accordance with existing laws and regulations. It was found that the "Thun Taw Win" pesticide shop in Kan Gyi Ward, Aunglan Township, Thayet District, Magway Region, was illegally selling a pesticide called "Shwe Aung Lan" without obtaining an import permit, and it did not meet quality standards. Therefore, the "Thun Taw Win" pesticide shop's retail and wholesale pesticide sales license number Makte-Alan-04-2023 (096) was revoked by office order No. 1/2026 dated March 10, 2026, in accordance with the authority granted under Section 18, Sub-section (b) of the Pesticide Law, and Section 27, Sub-section (a) of the same law. The shop has also been closed. Furthermore, the remaining stock of 170 kilograms (200g x 50 bags x 17 cartons) from the warehouse of Golden Rocket Co., Ltd., a distributor of the pesticide based in Mandalay, was seized. The company was charged by the Mandalay Township Head of the Department of Agriculture at the No. 9 City Police Station. In connection with this charge, the Maha Aung Myay Township Court ruled that the defendant was found guilty of violating Section 39 of the Pesticide Law and was sentenced to pay a fine of 1 million kyats, or face six months in prison if the fine is not paid. The defendant has already paid the fine of 1 million kyats. Therefore, the Myanmar Pesticide Registration Board has announced in the state-owned newspaper that any company found to have violated the provisions of the Pesticide Law, such as Golden Rocket Co., Ltd., will be subject to effective legal action in accordance with the Pesticide Law, to ensure public awareness and compliance.
