Cambodia Promotes Tree Planting in Svay Rieng, Aiming for Environmental Protection and Sustainable Development

Senior Advisor Maen Son San has urged for the further strengthening of the tree planting movement in Svay Rieng province, aiming to enhance green cover and foster hope for future generations. Speaking at a ceremony on the morning of September 20, 2026, where 2,200 saplings were planted in the Chheu Khuon Special Economic Zone in Svay Rieng City and 16,000 saplings were distributed to all eight districts and municipalities across Svay Rieng province, the Senior Advisor stated, "Planting trees and protecting forests is self-help that can help combat climate change, ensure safety from natural disasters, and become a hope for future generations." The tree planting activity on this day has become a movement to boost green cover in Svay Rieng province and is also an important national movement contributing to the National Program for Restoration and Conservation of Natural Resources, in line with the national policy to conserve and enhance natural resources sustainably. The Senior Advisor also expressed gratitude to Mr. Eang Sophalleth, Minister of Environment, for providing saplings for planting today, and to Mr. Chea Vuthy, Secretary General of the Council for the Development of Cambodia, for facilitating cooperation with the Chheu Khuon Special Economic Zone. He also commended the provincial administration, leaders, and all civil servants for their dedication and cooperation with relevant units, authorities, and local citizens to organize today's tree planting ceremony. According to a report by Mr. Peng Posa, Governor of Svay Rieng Province, today's tree planting activity demonstrates the joint commitment of both the state and private sectors to link economic, industrial, and investment development with environmental protection. The Governor further stated that we cannot choose between the economy and the environment, but rather must ensure that economic development proceeds without harming the environment, which will lead to investment that promotes sustainable development.
